Used Furnitures

I live in London and would like to know the best way of selling my antique/semi antique furniture/ paintings?

Is the auction the best method for selling these and if so, which auction? How I can have the stuff valued so i get the fair price? Can someone from the auction company visit my premisies for a valuation and how do they charge?Many thanks for your help.
