- Refurbish and paint them, that way you can pick colours that will look nice together. Sand them down, fill in the holes, take off the handles and any excess old paint, and then put the new paint on. Don't mix both different styles and colours. For example, you can have round and rectangular furniture, but make sure you paint them similar colours. Or all rectangular furniture, with plenty of colours.
- Keep in mind that an eclectic look, or at least everything not so matchy-matchy is "in". In fact, some people are of the opinion that having matching sets of furniture that looks straight off the showroom floor in every room is, well, boring. So that said, I would say to make things cohesive you might want to refinish some of the wood pieces to match by painting them white or black (or any color you like). If they aren't in the best shape (bad dings, scratches) then go with it and distress them along the edges with some sandpaper after you paint. While it's not against the "rules" anymore to have different "colors" of wood anymore (oak, cherry, etc), I personally think painting at least some of them would help if they're kinda all over the place. As for couches or other upholstered pieces, if they are different colors/patterns then try to pull out a color that is common and play that color up with accessories, rug, etc. Don't be afraid to use different patterns--stripes, polka dots, floral, plaid can all go together if you can keep the colors complementary. Basically do what you can with colors, accessories, curtains, etc to make it seem put together like you meant for it to be the way it is.
