Becoming a furniture dealer - where do I buy the furniture from?
I have found in the recent days of venturing out to buy furniture that there are a lot of guys who sell the same kinds of furniture as Rooms-to-go and roomstore and ashley furniture. They claim that they get this from the same distributors and I believe it to be true because the quality is the same. They also have catalogs of furniture which they use to order. Some of these guys don't even have a warehouse, they just use public storage. My question is does anyone know how can I get started on becoming a furniture dealer? It seems to be a good business to be in. I need information on where to get the catalogs or get in touch with distributors etc.

- Having lived five years in High Point, NC - the furniture capital of the world - most of your manufacturers are there. Plenty of them now in China if you are into cheap construction. I'd do a Google search for wholesale distributors and manufacturers of furniture. There's a semi-annual International Furniture Market in High Point, NC every year - next one is this Fall. There's also one in Las Vegas Januray 2008. They are trying to take the market business away from High Point, NC - whose been doing them for several decades. You can also register as a buyer at www.tradekey.com and place a notice what kind of furniture you are looking to buy. Manufacturers and distributors will contact you.
- You will need to buy direct from the manufacturers. For US manufacturers, try .. http://www.thomasnet.com For Chinese and other foreign mfgs, try ... http://www.thomasglobal.net
- I guess it also depends on whether you are wanting to sell the same things that the stores you mentioned are selling or sell something different. We are a custom furniture manufacturing company. We are in California but we currently work with a retailer who is located in New York and who has a website and ships throughout the country. We often ship directly to his customers so he doesn't need a warehouse. There are a lot of shops like ours that can supply the higher quality pieces that are built to peoples specifications. We also carry a line of Mission Furniture that was ONLY sell to retailers.
