Becoming a furniture dealer - where do I buy the furniture from? I have found in the recent days of venturing out to buy furniture that there are a lot of guys who sell the same kinds of furniture as Rooms-to-go and roomstore and ashley furniture. They claim that they get this from the same distributors and I believe it to be true because the quality is the same. They also have catalogs of furniture which they use to order. Some of these guys don't even have a warehouse, they just use public storage. My question is does anyone know how can I get started on becoming a furniture dealer? It seems to be a good business to be in. I need information on where to get the catalogs or get in touch with distributors etc.

What is going on with my boyfriend? I really need to know? Ok let me start off by saying he is the most amazing, sweetest, nicest guy in the whole world. he treats me great and I love him a lot. But he confuses me. Its about his job. We've been together for a while and he's a used furniture dealer. That's what he tells me and my parents. But he never talks about his work and when I asked him if it would be ok if I visited him at work, he said I wouldn't like it. He has a lot of money.I mean a lot. He always has huge amounts of cash on him,he buys me all kinds of stuff all the time, and he always has new clothes and cars and stuff. I don't think that's normal for a used furniture dealer. And he has all kinds of connections. Like when we go to the movies and there's this huge line, the back door always opens and an employee lets us in. As a matter of fact, in all the local businesses that I go to with him, always treat me great. Even when Im by myself. The grocer, the gas station, all the restraunts, drugs stores, everything. They always make sure i'm served first and served the best and if I ever complain about anything, they get all freaked out and give me my money back and keep apologizing and all that. When we park our car in a no parking zone we never get towed or get a ticket. One time we were at a big party that was really loud and the cops showed up. When they came to the door my bf walked out, said hello, and they just turned around and left. One time we were late for something, and we were going like 100mph down the road and we got pulled over. The cop walked up and my bf said "I don't think we need a ticket officer" and the cop was like 'Drive safe" and we just went on our way. A lot of stuff like that happens. I just want to know whats going on. What he really does for a living. Does anyone have any ideas?

I inherited a collection of hand made antique furniture in original paint from my Dad. How should I sell it? My father died in 1997. He was an antique dealer in the Maryland/DC area for years, and upon his death I inherited a collection of antique furniture, mostly 150 - 200 years old, all in the "original painted finish". Most of the furniture is colorful, and it all looks well-used, but from what I'm told, that fact simply makes this type of furntirue more desireable to collectors. I'm currently in the midst of what's going to be an ugly divorce, and I'm having to use all available sources of funds, so it's time to sell Dad's stuff. Any advice on how to go about doing that? What's the best way to proceed? Anybody know any contacts in Mississippi?
Any tips for selling a barely used {sectional} couch? I bought a light cream-colored contemporary sectional about two years ago, and since it was custom ordered I paid about $2300 for it which included stain guard (warranted for up to ten years). Problem is no one in my family will sit on it when they come to visit because the light color makes them nervous of staining it. So now it really is just a huge space-taker that's not good for anything because no one will sit on it. It is in excellent (looks brand new) condition, has only been in our smoke-free/kid-free/pet-free house, and still has the original manufacturer tags attached to the back. So what is the best way for me to go about selling it? The only used furniture stores around here are antique dealers, so I am looking for a possible online store such as craigslist, but not sure what type of approach to take to make sure I get the most for my money... ***What would be a good price range, I know I need to cut my losses but would like to keep a little green :)
is it possible to bargain? i want to buy new furnitures from ashely's furniture. i going to buy 7 piece set for around $1,600. is it possible to bargain with the furniture people? i know its not a used car dealer, but just wondering, cause i'm cheap as hell.
Can a hallway "console" be used as an aquarium stand? I am being given a 29 gal. aquarium and the only aquarium stand that I like, looks like a piece of furniture but has been "out of stock" for weeks and I need a stand asap. I have looked at furniture dealers online and have found many "hallway consoles" that I love and are made from hardwood construction, not particle board. They are the perfect size as I need a minimum of 30"W x 12"D. I want something with a drawer, for food, etc. and then a two door cabinet below that, for filter, etc. I can cut a hole in the back for cords and hoses and move/remove shelf. I realize that a 29 gal. tank weighs 330 lbs not counting rocks or other decorations and the substrate. Most well built aquarium stands have a center brace but if the "console" is hard wood constructed with a solid base instead of legs, shouldn't it work as well?
I need a Furniture Experts? I just bought a used bedroom set that is made by a designer called: Mathias Collection. I can't find this furniture anywhere. Question about an antique maple bed frame? I was recently given a beautiful antique maple bed frame - with headboard and footboard. But the sides (where the mattress and box springs are held) are made of maple wood. We were guessing it might have been made in the 1950's or 60's - but a friend of mine who is an antiques dealer said it may be older than that. When did furniture companies stop using wood on the sides, and go to using metal? I'm wondering how old my piece might be. Thanks!

Question about loyalty? My friend was laid off last year and she found a job in january at a spanish furniture dealer - the furniture is VERY expensive like $1200 a chair - the company has different sales reps all over the US to sell their products. One sales rep used to work for an older man but she quit because she said the man kept trying to come on to her. She spoke with the french owners and they told her she could still sell the furntiure as a dealer - she went out got her own business - now she is a dealer. The company has received like 5 orders from this woman, but my friend has been instructed to put them in the old man's name firm. My friend wants to tell this woman sales rep to stop wasting her time because they are NOT going to pay her commission but my friend is afraid that she will lose her job beause her boss, another woman, told her to stay out of it - how can we tell this sales rep that she should do something because its obvious that the chips are stacked against her.

Would it have been better to stay with the British Imperial system of measurement? Today, we have pints, litres, feet and metres. If you drive, distances are in miles and yards, if you buy furniture it's in millimetres. We have the stupid term of "one pence" and "two pence" instead of "a penny" or "tuppence" and weights measured in grammes. Notice that commerce chooses to use the smallest measurements hoping the public will believe they are getting a lot for their money. Kids these days are not so hot at maths. I think they were better at it in the old pounds, shillings and pence days, because they had to think a lot harder when dealing with money. Ask a car dealer about the petrol consumption of a car and he will give it as say, 30 miles per gallon because it sounds much better than 6 miles per litre. So is it time to scrap the decimal system and go back to the far more sensible Imperial System?

Medicare reimbursement for lift mechanism of power lift recliner: does anyone know how to get a form for this? Medicare will reimburse patients for the lift mechanism of a power lift recliner IF the person qualifies per doctor's perscription order. The only places I can find that will process the form for you are the Medical supply stores that sell overpriced, ugly, uncomfortable lift chairs. They will not just hand me over a form to use at a different dealer/retailer. NONE of the furniture retailers in our area know how to do it, and we want a certain chair from a furniture retailer. We will have no trouble getting the doctor's order, our loved one is well qualified and deserving of a reimbursement. We just need a form to submit to Medicare or to provide to the retailer to submit. PLEASE don't ask us to call Medicare--that's red tape that could take a year or more. We need a chair very soon, and the old fella doesn't want to do it unless he can get reimbursement. He also doesn't care to buy a used chair. We pay full price of the chair up front, either we or the retailer processes the form with Medicare, who sends the reimbursement to the patient/insured. The reimbursement doesn't pay the full price of the chair, just a certain amount of reimbursement for the lift mechanism
